Cherokee County Aquatic Center – Woodstock

If you have driven along I-575 near Woodstock you may have noticed the new Cherokee County Aquatic Center being built.  The Cherokee Aquatic Centeraquatic center will be located just West of the I-575 and Sixes Road interchange.  From the road you can see a large covered slide to the pool and buildings.  The Aquatic Center is scheduled to open in May, 2013.

The Aquatic Center is being constructed by the Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency on 37 acres.  Featured are a 10,000 sq. ft. outdoor leisure pool with a lazy river, aquatic play structure, zero entry wading pool, plunge pools and more. The area will have something for the entire family.

The indoor area includes a 50 meter competition pool along with spectator seating for 700; a 25 yard recreational pool with warmer water for therapy, exercise and swim instruction; two wet classrooms/party room’s poolside; spacious lobby and seating areas overlooking the pool.  A two-story building will house the indoor area.  Additional highlights are locker rooms with shower facilities and administrative offices.  The facility will be capable of hosting moderate to large swim meets.

The indoor and outdoor area will be serviced by a concession area.  There will be parking for 300 cars.

This facility is being built by bond money Cherokee County residents approved in 2008.   There are presently job opportunities with The Aquatic Center.  The Aquatic Center will have something for the entire family and will be a great place to spend a hot  summer days.

Update April 3, 2013:  Applications for swimming lessons are now being taken for the Aquatic Center.  Lessons will be available for all ages and all levels starting in May.  To learn more  about classes visit Cherokee County Park and Recreation online.
