Marietta was founded around a town square in 1834 and quickly became the home of the Western and Atlantic Railroad. Marietta has a wonderful town square built around a scenic park and hosts year around events in the park. Surrounding the park are lovely shops and great restaurants, making this a thriving downtown.  The jewel of downtown is Theatre on the Square, and there’s the fantastic new Cobb Energy Centre for the Performing Arts, home of the Atlanta Opera and hosting many other events.
