If you have purchased a home in Woodstock, Canton, Holly Springs or another part of Cherokee County within the last year, if you have not filed for the Cherokee County senior tax breaks now is the time. April 1 is the deadline for filing. In addition to the homestead exemption, residents 62 years of age can file for the Cherokee County senior tax breaks This exemption applies to the school portion of the tax bill and can be a large reduction in your tax bill. There are also exemptions for those with disabilities.
For a Cherokee County resident with a home value of $250,000, taxes would be around $3225. With the Elderly/Senior School Exemption that same $250,000 valued home would now have taxes of around $535.oo. This school tax exemption is another reason Woodstock and Cherokee County is a great place to live.
In addition to Woodstock and Cherokee County, other Georgia county’s deadlines for Homestead Exemptions is also April 1. Some other Georgia counties with Elderly School Tax Exemptions include:
- Cobb County at 62
- Forsyth County at 65
- Gwinnett County – two exemptions one at 62 and one at 65
- Fulton County does not have any Elderly/Senior Exemptions
