And the North Metro Atlanta suburb of Gainesville GA was named as the top retirement hot spot offering affordability and a fabulous lifestyle for active adults. The study is available online and will be in the September/October magazine.{[}]{[}]The AARP study looked at median housing price, cost of living, tax rates on pensions and Social Security, recreation, climate and health resources.  AARP cited the affordable cost of living and an abundance of recreational activities including boating, sailing and kayaking on Lake Lanier, the area’s fifteen golf courses and shop-filled town square, plus quick access to the Blue Ridge Mountains and trails of nearby National Forests in naming Gainesville their #1 retirement destination.Atlanta retirement 55 plus{[}]{[}]Gainesville was the only Deep South city to make AARP’s top ten for active seniors with Florida surprisingly shut out. Phoenix and Las Vegas were also notably absent in the top ten. We think that the reasoning behind Gainesville’s success applies equally to Woodstock, Milton, Alpharetta and other North Metro Atlanta cities in that the North Metro area is affordable and have and abundance of shopping, dining and recreational opportunities. And don’t forget the high quality of medical facilities nearby.{[}]{[}]So if you’re looking for a great retirement destination, consider all of North Metro Atlanta as you consider your options.
