Was at Sterling on the Lake recently and made time to grab a quick sandwich at Friends Cafe. This locally run lunch spot is located, believe it or not, in Spout Springs library. On this day, I had a chicken salad sandwich that was quite good. But my favorite is still the Cuban sandwich that I haven’t forgotten though I had it months ago.{[}]{[}]{[}]{[}]In addition to a multitude of sandwiches, burgers and hot dogs, Friends Cafe also offers several grilled paninis, wraps, salads and low-fat smoothies. For those with a sweet tooth, try a dessert crêpe or slushy made with real Italian syrups. Gluten-free and vegan options as well are available. There are a few tables to sit and enjoy and I’ve never seen the cafe anywhere near full. Bottom line, great homemade and wholesome food served up with a personal touch.{[}]{[}]Spout Springs Library has a great story time and puppet room for kids and lots of quite spaces as well for teens and adults. The entrance to the library and Friends Cafe is a little deceiving: to park, go into Sterling on the Lake and turn almost immediately left into the Springs section of Sterling on the Lake, which is an age-targeted Active Adult neighborhood. So go on your own to find that perfect book on your reading list or take the grandkids out for some fun and great food.{[}]{[}]
