Memorial Day 2012 | Events Around Metro Atlanta

As we head into Memorial Day weekend and the unofficial kickoff for summer, there are plenty of events around Metro Atlanta.  But before we give you some ideas for weekend fun, let’s take a quick moment to remember what the Holiday is really about, honoring our veterans who have given their lives serving our country. In the past we’ve written about the history of Memorial Day.{[}]{[}]Here’s a quick overview of some of the official ceremonies around the city: Though I don’t see an official event for the city of Atlanta, Stone Mountain Park has an extended Lasershow Spectacular each night beginning at 9:30pm; best of all, active and retired military personnel receive free admission with discounts for their families.verterans day 2011 in georgia Woodstock and Milton hold 10am ceremonies to honor our veterans. Roswell’s program begins official at 11am with a ceremony to be followed by a concert on the lawn. Meanwhile, Alpharetta will note the National Moment Remembrance at 3pm at the American Legion Post but will kick off the day with a charitable 5K and 10K run at 7:30am. And Marietta has a noon program at Marietta National Cemetery.{[}]{[}]And if that’s not enough, check out the 3 Day Atlanta Jazz Festival at Piedmont Park. Or drop by the Saturday – Sunday in Alpharetta for Art in the Park and the Alpharetta Farmers Market or downtown for the Decatur’s Arts Festival.{[}]{[}]So get out and enjoy the great weather, remember our veterans and dodge any raindrops!
