According to a recent article in the Milton Herald, construction will begin for the newest North Fulton high school, to be located in Milton. Fulton County school officials also announced that the currently unnamed high school will also be built well under budget to boot! The location of the school is just north of Windward Parkway behind the Publix shopping center on Hwy 9 at the intersection of Bethany Bend and Cogburn Road. The design of the school will complement the look of Kings Ridge across the street.
According to the Herald, construction for the school was approved four years ago with a projected price tag of $45.5 million. Due to the economic downturn, the school is now scheduled to come in $14 million under the original budget. Evergreen Construction will break ground in a few weeks with the opening scheduled for August 2012.
The school system has not yet set decided on which neighborhoods and areas will be redistricted into the high school- hearings on the matter are anticipated for Spring 2011. However, students already attending Milton His School will have the option of staying at Milton High School by providing their own transportation to and from school.
According to the AJC, the median home price in Milton is approximately $800,000 though homes for sale in Milton can be found for almost any budget.
As North Fulton continues to grow, another high school will reduce classroom overcrowding and also reduce commutes for many Milton students.
