It’s that time again to think about taxes. If you purchased a home last year you want to file for your Georgia homestead exemption now. Starting January 1 Georgia counties allow residents to file in person for exemptions. Each county handles registering differently so below is a partial list for counties.
Additional each county has different exemptions other than Homestead. In Cherokee and Cobb County residents over 62 are exempt from school taxes providing a nice savings to Senior residents. In Forsyth and Gwinnett is age is 65 for school tax exemptions. Check out the options in your county here.
- Cherokee County senior tax breaks
- Cobb County
- Forsyth County
- Gwinnett County
Note some counties require you file in person and some allow you to file online. If you must file in person make sure you know what you need to take.

I believe you must go to the Assessor’s office but call to verify 678-493-6120. Keep in mind that the deadline is April 1 for any given year.
